How to begin

Step 1:  Call to schedule a complementary 20-minute consultation phone call.  This call is intended as an introduction to my services, an opportunity for me to learn about your needs, and for us to determine if I am the best fit to meet those needs.  If I am not the best fit, I would be happy to refer you to a therapist who may better meet your needs.  To schedule a consultation call, please contact me using the contact page information.

Step 2:  Complete an in-person assessment "intake" appointment.  At this meeting we will discuss your history, current difficulties, and begin to discuss goals for therapy.  In some cases, the assessment phase may last multiple sessions.

Step 3:  Collaboratively set goals, develop a treatment plan, and begin our work together.

What to expect

Sessions last approximately 50-minutes; however, longer sessions may be scheduled if therapeutically indicated (cost will be adjusted for longer session).  Initially, sessions typically are scheduled weekly but may be titrated, again, if therapeutically indicated and agreed upon in advance.

For the most effective treatment, work will continue outside of my office in the form of assignments or tasks between sessions.  Assignments allow for the application of skills discussed in session and give us data to examine in session.

I provide both time-limited, focused treatment and longer-term treatment.  Length of therapeutic relationship depends on the treatment approach and the client's unique goals.  In early sessions, the client and I discuss treatment recommendations and client preferences.

Cost

The cost of my services are comparable to other Bay Area providers with similar credentials.  I do not contract with insurance companies.  If you have a PPO insurance plan, my services may be eligible for full or partial reimbursement as an "out of network" benefit.  Upon request I will provide a statement ("superbill") that can be submitted to an insurance company.  Please contact your insurance company to confirm benefits.  I currently accept payment in the form of cash or check at the end of each session.

Cancellation Policy:  Appointments that are canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be subject to a fee of $100.  Please notify me of a cancellation as soon as possible so that I can offer the time to another individual as necessary.
